How does NeoGen work?
NeoGen employs ultra-high radio frequency to ionize medical grade nitrogen gas from a pressurized cylinder, forming a nitrogen plasma in the nozzel and delivering a regulated pulse of plasma heat energy (about 120ºC for 15 milliseconds at 4.0 J).
The compressed pulse of nitrogen plasma removes oxygen from the treatment region, preventing skin charring. The amount of energy given to the skin influences the depth of penetration and the related tightening, resurfacing, and regeneration benefits.
What is unique about nitrogen plasma?
Nitrogen plasma is a highly conductive thermal energy source that may easily enter the skin. Heat generated by plasma has a profound influence on and beneath the skin's surface, producing thermal disruption to the skin's entire architecture and penetrating as deep as the reticular dermis.
Nitrogen plasma's efficacy is independent of its interaction with a specific target chromophore or wavelength. Because energy is transferred through water, the level of moisture of the skin influences the depth of penetration.
In addition to heat, nitrogen plasma has been shown to be effective at damaging biofilms, bacterial cell walls, and proteins, as well as changing intracellular pH, making it a useful modality for anti-microbial therapy, acne treatment, and increased skin permeability to actives.
